Compliance Update: California Consumer Privacy Act and Privacy & Data Security Hot Topics
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) goes into effect in 2020, and lead generators have a short time to comply. But, the CA Attorney General’s office has yet to promulgate regulations (as of August 2019). Whether there’s final regulations or not, understanding the current and evolving landscape under CA and other consumer privacy and data security laws, and how they impact lead generation advertising, is critical for preparedness and avoiding enforcement risks.
Technology, innovation, and changes in the law have tremendous potential to transform the business of lead generation — both in the way consumers control their personal information and the way in which advertisers can communicate with consumers. With the scope and breadth of data breaches, advances in technology and advertising methods, and change in privacy and data security law and regulation on the rise, it’s become increasingly vital for lead generators to manage their activities, IT, data security, and consumer data collection and use risks as well as those of prospective and current customer and vendors.
New legal requirements mean additional compliance requirements, and the potential for new claims and litigation.
Learn the latest on compliance requirements and best practices for the CCPA, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and other federal and state privacy and data security law developments. This interactive Q&A – with time reserved for audience questions – will cover the impact, scope, and consequences of sweeping new privacy laws and what lead generators need to know about the evolving legal landscape.
